“Just, Thriving, and Sustainable Communities”

The objectives of the “Heart of America” project are to eradicate the economic roots of poverty, war, and racism.  This can be done by promoting justice and democratization of ownership for every person through equal access to private property rights in productive capital. In the words of R. Buckminster Fuller, the goal is “[t]o make the world work for 100% of humanity in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation, without ecological offense or the disadvantage of anyone.”

The mission of the Descendants of American Slaves for Economic and Social Justice, therefore, is to advance liberty and justice for every person through equal opportunity and access to the means to become capital owners. To achieve this, the DAS/ESJ promotes understanding of economic and social justice principles and the free market theory of binary economics.  The DAS/ESJ works to develop practical applications, policy reforms and comprehensive strategies.  To do this they work with servant leaders, citizen-activists and other organizations to build justice-based enterprises, communities and nations of economically independent citizen-owners.

The DAS/ESJ will attain these goals through what they believe is the most important factor, “Justice Based Leadership” (JBL). This is a philosophy that aligns individual and group values, mission, actions, structures, and systems around a shared understanding of, and adherence to, clearly defined and universal principles of social and economic justice. It relates to the development of an individual business or organization, as well as to a larger economic or political system.

To value oneself and, at the same time, subordinate oneself to a higher purpose and principles is the paradoxical essence of highest humanity and the foundation of effective Justice-based leadership. To understand the corruptibility of concentrated power (including within oneself as the leader), and to institutionalize effective checks-and-balances within the system to prevent such concentration, is the responsibility of a justice-based leader.
