On receiving the news from a CIA economist earlier today
that an economic collapse is imminent within the next six months, the stock
market . . . soared to close at a record high.
On receiving the news last week that things were improving, the stock
market . . . soared to close at a record high.
The suspicion intrudes that maybe the stock market isn’t the
best indication of how the economy is doing for “the rest of us.” That being the case, we’ve been advancing our
own programs in an effort to build the foundation for a more economically and
socially just future for all:
• On Monday of this
week, members of the CESJ core group and representatives of Equity
Expansion International, Inc.
met with the ambassador of the Republic of Guinea. His Excellency expressed interest in the Citizens Land Bank concept to ensure that the mineral and
agricultural wealth of the country accrues to the benefit of every child,
woman, and man directly, rather than through State or collective ownership, or
through jobs “created” by foreign investors.
• On Tuesday evening,
CESJ had a skype conference with Dr. María Teresa de Pérez Lozano, professor of
commercial law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina in Buenos
Aires. The meeting was to discuss the
possibility of inviting various dignitaries from Argentina as CESJ’s guests to
participate in the World Meeting of Families in September of this year in
Philadelphia. Due to the pressure of
government tax filings this week, we have not yet started the actual outreach,
but expect to do so next week.
• Most of this week has been taken up with preparing a
package requested by the Ambassador from Guinea for presentation to the
president of Guinea. CESJ’s Fellow,
Astrid U. from Belgium, has been working on finalizing the translation into diplomatic
French.
• Deacon Keith
Fournier received his package of books from CESJ and expressed great
appreciation, describing the material as “brilliant.” Included in the package were copies of Freedom
Under God, The
Restoration of Property,
and The
Political Animal.
• As of this morning, we have had
visitors from 48 different countries and 49 states and provinces in the United
States and Canada to this blog over the past two months. Most visitors are from
the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Indonesia, and Australia. The
most popular postings this past week were “The Purpose of Production,” “Lord of
the World, I: The Papal Reading List,” “Thomas Hobbes on Private Property,”
“CESJ Core Group Meets ‘Pope’s Rabbi’,” and “Why Did Nixon Take the Dollar Off
the Gold Standard?”
Those are the happenings for this week, at least those that
we know about. If you have an
accomplishment that you think should be listed, send us a note about it at
mgreaney [at] cesj [dot] org, and we’ll see that it gets into the next
“issue.” If you have a short (250-400
word) comment on a specific posting, please enter your comments in the blog —
do not send them to us to post for you.
All comments are moderated, so we’ll see it before it goes up.
