We’re having a little trouble trying to figure out why the
stock market is up in light of the poor jobs data, the whole Syria thing, and
just about anything else you care to mention.
On the plus side, Freedom Under God has been released and is now
available for bulk/wholesale (i.e.,
ten or more copies) sales. [UPDATE: NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON] [FURTHER UPDATE: NOW AVAILABLE ON BARNES AND NOBLE]
• The big news is that a short time ago we released Freedom Under God for printing. CESJ
is now taking bulk/wholesale orders (please, no individual sales). Until December 31, 2013, the per unit price
for 10-99 copies is $16.00 (20% discount), for 100-499 copies is $14.00 (30%
discount), for 500-999 copies is $12.00 (40% discount), and for 1,000 or more
copies is $10.00 (50% discount).
Shipping is extra. Send an e-mail
to “publications [at] cesj [dot] org”
stating how many copies you want and the street address (no P. O. Boxes) where
you want them delivered. We will get
back to you with the total cost, how to pay, and estimated delivery time. All payments must be made in advance, and orders
are placed only after payment clears.
• We are developing a program whereby people can help a
school, church, or some other organization raise money by having a “book fair”
featuring CESJ and UVM publications.
Up-front costs are kept down by first selling the books to customers,
collecting the payment, then buying the books in bulk. More details will follow as we work them out.
• A short time ago we mentioned the deleterious effect that
the late Howard Zinn had on American academia and, through the Groves of
Academe, on the whole of American society, breeding generations of students and
academics with an incredible loathing for America. We mentioned the virtual canonization of this
misanthropic atheist by, e.g., parts
of the Catholic Worker Movement and other groups. We expected to be hit with a number of
complaints for daring to criticize one of the patron saints of vitriol and
vindictiveness, but (much to our surprise), we didn’t hear anything. Instead, our mention of the horrifying effect
that Zinn and similar people have had on American culture has become one of our
most popular postings. Perhaps all
anyone needed was evidence that they weren’t alone in questioning the spite and
the malice that pervades the circles frequented by so-called intellectuals.
• With the anticipated success of Freedom Under God, a significant number of other important
publications and other projects may become possible. Consider making a contribution to CESJ that
can be designated for a project revolving fund.
We will work out some level of “premiums,” such as free books, depending
on the level of contribution.
Contributions are tax deductible in the U.S.
• Purely by coincidence, we received our office copy of Encyclopedia of Politics of the American
West, to which CESJ’s Director of Research contributed a number of
articles. The Encyclopedia would make a very good addition to high school and
college libraries . . . after purchasing numerous copies of Freedom Under God, of course. . . .
• As of this morning, we have had
visitors from 71 different countries and 50 states and provinces in the United
States and Canada to this blog over the past two months. Most visitors are from
the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and India. The most
popular postings this past week were “Shakespeare Speaks! (Again),” “Thomas
Hobbes on Private Property,” “News from the Network, Vol. 6, No. 34,” “If You
Have a Free Moment,” and “The Fulton Sheen ‘Guy’.”
Those are the happenings for this week, at least that we
know about. If you have an
accomplishment that you think should be listed, send us a note about it at
mgreaney [at] cesj [dot] org, and we’ll see that it gets into the next
“issue.” If you have a short (250-400
word) comment on a specific posting, please enter your comments in the blog —
do not send them to us to post for you.
All comments are moderated anyway, so we’ll see it before it goes up.
